Elson S. Floyd takes over as 10th WSU President

PULLMAN – Elson S. Floyd assumed office Monday, May 21, as Washington State University’s 10th president. During his first several days he has been meeting frequently with students, faculty, staff and administrators across the Pullman campus, as well as with media.

Because students are the first priority, President Floyd began his administration by meeting with ASWSU leaders Monday morning

“This is an exciting day for me,” Floyd said Monday morning. “Under V. Lane Rawlins and his predecessors, WSU has built up a lot of momentum. I am fortunate to be taking over as president at such a promising time in the institution’s history.”

Making time to talk with students on Terrell Mall

Floyd comes to Washington State University from the University of Missouri system, where he served as president since November 2002. He also served as president of Western Michigan University from 1999 to 2002, and held several administrative positions at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Previously, he spent two years as executive director of the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board. From 1990 to 1993, he served as vice president for student services, vice president for administration and executive vice president at Eastern Washington University.
