Emeritus Society gets organized

Eighteen retired faculty recently met to discuss and plan the creation of the Emeritus Society at WSU Pullman.

“The group strongly supported creating an organization for retired faculty who wish to remain actively involved with the university,” said Tom Brigham, executive assistant to the president for faculty relations. “Seven volunteered to form an organizing committee.”

“We had no structure for emeritus faculty before 2006,” Brigham explained. One year ago, a new section outlining the appointment of emeritus faculty was included in the Faculty Manual (page 87).

Applications will be made in collaboration with a department chair or dean.

The Emeritus Society will be supported jointly by the Office of Research and the Office of Alumni Relations.
