PULLMAN – More Washington State University students will benefit from international scholarship opportunities thanks to laureates Scott and Linda Carson.
Following last week’s announcement of the new campus partnership between the WSU College of Business and University Centre Cesar Ritz in Brig, Switzerland, enabling students to complete a WSU International Business major or minor degree during one semester in Europe, CB alumnus Scott E. Carson (’72, Business Administration) and his wife Linda have committed $1 million to help internationalize the College.
The Carsons’ gift will establish the Carson International Business Scholars Fund to further educate tomorrow’s global business leaders by providing need-based scholarships to WSU students participating in College of Business international education initiatives.
“It is imperative that we encourage global experiences for today’s students,” said Carson, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “I challenge the college’s alumni and friends to become involved in supporting the education of tomorrow’s global business leaders.”
The endowed fund is a positive step toward the college’s continued commitment to develop globally competitive graduates. In 2005, the U.S.
Senate announced their goal of sending one million students abroad annually by 2017. This vision is mirrored by efforts at WSU and the CB; the college aims to double the number of business students studying abroad from 60 per semester to 120. Over the past three years, the College of Business has sent nearly 500 students to more than 30 locations world-wide including such places as Thailand, Vietnam and Norway.
“As the university strives to educate tomorrow’s globally competitive leaders, it is critical for WSU to increase the number of its students studying abroad,” said WSU President V. Lane Rawlins. “The visionary leadership provided by the Carsons will allow our College of Business to provide transformational global experiences to an unprecedented number of students.”

The Carson International Business Scholars Fund will enable us to begin addressing our goals for international programs in terms of reach and accessibility,” said CB Dean Eric Spangenberg. “The Carsons’ gift benefits Washington State University, its students, and the business communities of the world.”
