WSU Museum of Art hires development director

PULLMAN – The Museum of Art at Washington State University has hired Craig Evans as the new director of development. With more than 15 years of experience in development work in the nonprofit sector, Evans will be responsible for day-to-day fundraising and a major campaign geared toward a planned $10-million expansion of the museum.

Museum of Art/WSU Director Chris Bruce said Craig will base his work out of Seattle, with regular visits to Pullman.

Evans has worked in development for a variety of cultural institutions, including the Pacific Science Center, the Museum of History and Industry, the Intiman Theater and the Seattle Art Museum. He managed the capital campaign for Seattle YouthCare and the implementation of Rainier Scholar’s first comprehensive fundraising and marketing plan.

Evan’s earned his master’s degree in not-for-profit leadership from Seattle University in 2001. He is a past board member of the Northwest Development Officers Association and has a wide range of consulting experience, including teaching fund raising classes, strategic planning, and board facilitation and training.

“WSU’s commitment to the Museum of Art is impressive,” said Evans. “The new facility will create a lasting legacy for WSU and its supporters by providing accessibility to great works of art for thousands of students and the larger community beyond the university’s walls. The vision of Chris Bruce and his staff is remarkable and I’m looking forward to helping them build a new facility that will showcase WSU as an institution dedicated to arts education.”

Museum of Art/WSU Associate Director Anna-Maria Shannon said “The Museum of Art is moving into a growth phase that reflects the university’s overall commitment to the arts. Hiring Craig is a very positive step in keeping this growing phase moving ever upward.”
