PULLMAN– Washington State University’s School of Music, for its fifth annual summer musical, has chosen to present the cult classic, “Little Shop of Horrors.” This 1980 off-Broadway musical was made even more popular by the 1986 movie version, starring Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, Jim Belushi and Bill Murray.
The production will be presented in Bryan Hall Theatre on the WSU campus July 21, 22, 28 and 29 with the performances starting at 8 p.m. Tickets will be on sale an hour before each performance in Bryan Hall Theatre at the prices of $5.00 for students/senior citizens and $10 for adults. Bring the entire family as there is something for everyone in this wonderful musical comedy.
The story revolves around Seymour Krelborn, a naïve and insecure florist’s clerk played by Matthew Collins (graduated music business major) and the secret love of his life, Audrey, portrayed by Becky Elshaw (junior vocal performance major). Their boss at the Skid Row Florist shop, Mr. Mushnik is played by Daniel Morrison (graduate student in music). The failing shop begins to thrive when Seymour introduces a strange and unusual new plant, called Audrey II, which has a unique feeding regimen. The voice of the plant is sung by Dustin Neiman, and the action is overseen by a Greek Chorus, resembling a sixties girl group and consisting of Megan Beresford, Bryana Cline and Kayla Williams. Audrey’s boyfriend, Orin, is played by Zak Ricards and many other roles are depicted by Monica Zosel and Dallas Rawlins.
The production is directed by associate professor Julie Anne Wieck, accompanied by Kelly Cornwall and conducted by graduate student, Matthew Holter. The wonderful Audrey II plants are courtesy of the Capital Playhouse in Olympia, Wash.
