Karl Boehmke will resume his duties as executive director of budget and planning for Washington State University on Sept. 1, President V. Lane Rawlins has announced.
Boehmke retired from the university on May 1. Having completed more than 30 years of full-time service at WSU, he had reached the highest level of retirement benefits possible under the PERS 1 retirement system.
“I am pleased that Karl has agreed to return,” Rawlins said. “Our ability to direct resources to our highest priorities and strategic goals requires the expertise and leadership that Karl has provided.”
At the time Boehmke retired, Rawlins said he hoped to reach an agreement with Boehmke by which he would resume his service to the university, as is permitted by state law. With his return in September, Joan King, associate budget director, is serving this summer as interim budget director. She will resume her duties as associate budget director when Boehmke returns.
Boehmke has been executive director of planning and budgeting since August 1999. He began his career at WSU in 1975 when he came to WSU’s College of Business as administrative assistant to the dean and then was finance and administrative officer for the college from 1979 to 1986.
