Honors College adds three professors to council

Professors Raymond Sun, Ursula Mazur and Bintong Chen have been added to the Honors Council of the WSU Honors College.

Sun is an associate professor of history, Mazur a professor of chemistry and materials science and Chen a professor of management and operations.

“These faculty members have been strong supporters of our honors students and in their new role on the council, their impact on our students and programs will be even greater,” said Mary Wack, Honors College dean and interim director of the Office of Undergraduate Education.

The council members duties include:
* reviewing students’ theses nominated for the top “Pass with Distinction” awards
* making final determinations regarding recipients of the S. Town Stephenson Award
* reviewing nominations for faculty and dean’s awards
* serving as ambassadors and advocates for the college within and beyond the university

Wack said the new members replace departing council members LeRoy Ashby, Regents Professor and Claudius O. and Mary Johnson Distinguished Professor of history; Candis Claiborn, dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture and professor of civil and environmental engineering; and Sandra Cooper, associate professor of mathematics.

Members rotate off the council following three years of service.

Continuing members of the council are Rick Gill, assistant professor of environmental science; Doug Call, assistant professor of molecular epidemiology; and Birgitta Ingemanson, associate professor of foreign languages and cultures.
