WSU and UI ROTC to host competition March 4

The Navy ROTC programs from WSU and the University of Idaho will host the annual Northwest Navy Competition Saturday, March 4 at the University of Idaho campus.

The free, day-long competition will include drill events and exhibitions, as well as various other competitions. The Vandals and Cougars will join together, competing against the University of Washington, Oregon State University and Utah State University, said Dave Chun, battalion public affairs officer.

“We will see how ROTC members perform in all aspects of the military, said Marlyn Miller, senior enlisted advisor. Most of the events will take place at the University of Idaho’s Kibbie Dome, he said.

Rear Admiral Gary Jones, commander of the Naval Service Training Command in the Northwest, will also attend the events. Jones oversees the enlisted and officer accession training programs, excluding the U.S. Naval Academy.

Jones graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1975 and became a naval aviator in 1976. Completing numerous assignments and positions, Jones has accumulated over 4,000 flight hours.
