Film to provide intimate peek at countryside, culture

Mike Shiley, filmmaker, adventurer and world traveler, will present his latest travel documentary on Thailand at Beasley Coliseum Theater Sunday, Nov. 13 at 7:00pm.

The film, to be shown on a 30 foot screen, was professionally produced in digital video format and is filled with vibrant colors, modern music, crisp narration and natural audio.

Amazing Thailand is a brand new travel film that will takes viewers deep into the jungle aboard a bamboo raft, shows a rare glimpse of the indigenous hill tribe villages in Northern Thailand and explores uninhabited tropical beaches by kayak.

The film also highlights the many different art forms and shimmering golden Buddhist temples, and leads viewers on a boat cruise through the hidden canals of Bangkok.

Thailand has something to offer people of all ages and desires; from delicious food to riding elephants on multi-day back country treks, Shiley said.

History buffs will appreciate the featured profile on Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Siam that was sacked in the 1767 by Burmese invaders. The old temples of Ayutthaya are proud reminders of a bygone era.

Shiley is no stranger to adventure travel. He has completed a 3,000 mile solo bicycle journey from Canada to Cabo San Lucas, worked as a scuba dive guide in the Red Sea in Egypt, trekked to the Base Camp of Mt. Everest in Nepal, and has visited Thailand seven times.

He has traveled to 36 countries and made film documentaries on Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Iraq and Japan.

Also included in the evening is a slide show of post-tsunami Thailand, taken five weeks after the tsunami destruction.

Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
