Space needle adds twist to Apple Cup rivalry

A Wednesday, Nov. 2 news conference will reveal the details of “Tackling Hurricane Relief,” a two-week program that gives this year’s Apple Cup game between Washington State University and the University of Washington some added importance and an unexpected twist.

The 10 a.m. news conference will take place on the Space Needle observation deck.

With the massive devastation caused by recent hurricanes in the Southeast, the Space Needle is helping victims by raising money to help Habitat for Humanity rebuild homes.

The prize for the school that raises the most money for the “Tackling Hurricane Relief” program will be unveiled at the news conference.

There to help with the announcement will be Jeff Wright, chair and owner of the Space Needle; honorary chairmen for “Tackling Hurricane Relief” Reuben Mayes and Greg Lewis, former running backs for WSU and UW, respectively; and Dorothy Bullitt, executive director, Habitat for Humanity of Seattle/King County.
