Board of Regents to consider construction projects

The Board of Regents of Washington State University will be asked to move forward on two construction projects for the Pullman campus during its meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Grand Ballroom II of the Westin Hotel, 1900 Fifth Avenue in Seattle.

An agenda for the meeting is available at http://www.regents.wsu.edu/Agendas-Notices/050916Agenda.doc.

The board will be asked to approve schematic design documents for the renovation of the Compton Union Building and the renovation of the Washington Building, which formerly housed Pullman Regional Hospital. The projects are linked, in that the renovation of the Washington Building will provide space that will allow relocation of some offices currently housed in the CUB.

The cost of the Washington Building renovation is $4.1 million. The project is slated for completion in the summer of 2006. The CUB renovation, which is budgeted at $86 million, is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2006 and conclude in the summer of 2008.

The board also will be asked to approve a supplemental budget request to be made in the upcoming legislative session. Included in the request is a plan to fund construction of a new Biotechnology/Life Sciences Building on the Pullman campus.

The board also will be asked to approve sale of 29 acres of agricultural land known as Fife Farm No. 3 to the Puyallup Tribe of Indians for $5.87 million.

The meeting will be the first for three regents – Laura Jennings, Francois Forgette and student regent Justin Leighton – who have joined the board since it last met in May.
