About 45 African American high school students visited the Pullman campus over the weekend. These prospective WSU students participated in tours and college briefings. They had lunch at the Lewis Alumni Center with featured speaker Mike Tate, vice president of Equity and Diversity, and with students from the Multicultural Student Center.
The recruitment effort was spearheaded by WSU’s African American Alumni Alliance and alumnus Robert Gary. Gary was a track and field star who graduated from the College of Education in 1956. He was inducted into the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.
Many WSU colleges and units participated in this effort, including College of Veterinary Medicine, Admissions, the Alumni Association, Campus Involvement, the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Sciences, Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, the Office of Equity and Diversity and Student Affairs.
