WSU Alumni Achievement Award Presented to Scott K. Jones

PULLMAN, Wash.Washington State University alumnus Scott K. Jones received a WSU Alumni Achievement Award at an alumni award reception held at a WSU Foundation President’s Associates event at Arbor Crest Winery April 14.

Jones, a Spokane resident, is president and chief executive officer for Fidelity Associates Insurance and Financial Services, a four-generation family business started in 1906 that employs some 40 people and provides insurance and financial services with revenues of more than $35,000,000.

He is the fifth Jones recipient of an Alumni Achievement Award, it having previously gone to his grandmother, Burnette Jones, both parents, Barry and Carole Jones, and his uncle Denny Jones

Bob Morgan, past president of the Alumni Association and member of the WSU Foundation and Athletic Council, presented the award.

Jones graduated from WSU in 1979 with bachelor’s degrees in business administration and management information systems. That same year, National Risk Insurance Managers Society selected him to attend its national conference in Chicago— the first business student west of the Mississippi River to attend and one of only 12 students nationally.

While a student, he participated in a number of WSU activities and clubs, including Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, the WSU Freshman Baseball Team and the WSU Yell Squad.

“Scott is a very loyal Cougar, both vocally and visually, and is a well-known advocate of WSU in Spokane,” said his father, Barry. “Not only is he very active in the community, he runs a very successful business and finds time to be a great father and husband to his wife, Vicki, and their three sons.”

His community service efforts include his time as co-chair of the Spokane School District No. 81 school levies for a number of years and as chair of the Inland Empire Children’s Miracle Network Telethon the past six years, culminating in 2003 with more than $1,000,000 raised.

Jones also volunteers his time to WSU as a President’s Associates member and is a visiting instructor for the College of Business and Economics for insurance classes and assists with career opportunities. He is a member of the college’s Risk Insurance Advisory Committee and is a volunteer teacher to Spokane area high school students regarding insurance and insurance careers

His memberships include the board of directors for the Greater Spokane Chamber Of Commerce, the Spokane Downtown Rotary Club No. 21, public television’s Friends of Seven and the YMCA. He is the benefit chair for the Epicurean Delight event for the Deaconess/Valley Healthcare Foundation, chairs the alumni advisory board and has been chapter adviser for WSU’s Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity for the last eight years.

Jones was born at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga., and raised in Spokane, where he graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1975. He and his wife, Vicki (a 1976 WSU alumna) live in Spokane and have three children, Brian, Brandon and Blake.
