April 20 presentation to discuss Seattle library

Two members of Hoffman Construction Company will make a presentation about the construction of the new Rem Koolhaas-designed Seattle Public Library on April 20.

The Washington State University Museum of Art, in collaboration with the School of Architecture and Construction Management at WSU, is sponsoring a presentation by Dan Harmon, vice president of Hoffman Construction Company, and Dale Stenning, project manager of Hoffman Construction Company, at 7 p.m. in Carpenter Hall Room 102. The presentation is in conjunction with “Focus: Art + Architecture,” a program started by the Museum of Art and the School of Architecture and Construction Management to increase cross-disciplinary projects on campus.

“In our continuing interest to explore the cross-disciplinary nature of creativity and innovation, we are thrilled to be able to collaborate with the School of Architecture and Construction Management to bring Dan Harmon and Dale Stenning to campus for a presentation of the most acclaimed new building in the country,” said Chris Bruce, director of the Museum of Art.

Koolhaas is an internationally-known architect, and was featured in a major profile in the March 14, 2005 edition of The New Yorker magazine.

“The new public library in Seattle represents the ideas and beliefs of an internationally renowned architect regarding issues of urbanism, culture and our global condition,” said Greg Kessler, the director of the School of Architecture and Construction Management. “The opportunity to interact with those who were responsible for construction of this important work is an exceptional opportunity for students, public and university community.”

Hoffman Construction Company has been involved in many well-known projects, including Frank Gehry’s Experience Music Project, and has been the recipient of numerous American Institute of Architects awards for their innovative work on distinguished new buildings.
