Washington State University’s Art á la Carte, a brown-bag noon lecture series, will present journalist and author Peter Chilson Jan. 27 when he reads from his newest book on Africa, “Children of the Maps.”
Chilson, a WSU faculty member in the English department, will also discuss the work and life of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka (Wolé Shoy-inka), who will visit WSU’s Pullman campus Feb. 3-4.
Upcoming Art a la Carte programs include a Feb. 10 visit by Portland (Ore.) artist Kelly Williams who will take on the issues of beauty, body image and media manipulation in today’s culture and contemporary history. She will discuss her humorous approach to art making and how she combines vintage imagery with most anything to get her message out.
On Feb. 17, “Public Art and Private Encounters” will be the subject of a lecture by H. Clare Wiser, docent of the Museum of Art/WSU and professor emeritus of mathematics at WSU. Wiser will take audience members on a virtual walking tour of campus using picture slides as he discusses the obvious and not-so-obvious art on campus.
“On Art, Glass, and More…” is a Feb. 24 lecture by Northwest artists Flora Mace and Joey Kirkpatrick. They will talk about their 25 years of collaborative work on a number of projects from the large-scale blown glass fruit and vegetable forms for which they are famous, to their life-sized mixed media sculptures and their new exhibit at the Museum of Art/WSU.
