Tri-Cities Man’s Gift Creates First Northwest Public Radio and TV Endowments

PULLMAN, Wash. — A gift from a Tri-Cities man has been used to create the first endowments for Northwest Public Radio and for KWSU/KTNW Public Television.

Kenneth Key, who died last spring, designated a gift of $76,903 to support the mission of the public radio and television services. The amount was split evenly between the two organizations. Each will use $25,000 to create the endowments.

“Providing for Northwest Public Radio and KWSU/KTNW Public Television as beneficiaries of his retirement plan was a wonderful way for Mr. Key to give back in support of ideas, music and entertainment that were important to him when making a gift during his lifetime wasn’t possible,” said Dennis Haarsager, associate vice president and general manager of Educational Telecommunications & Technology for WSU.

“Northwest Public Radio and KWSU/KTNW Public Television have matured to become institutions that will endure for the long term,” said Phyllis Baxter, director of Individual Giving-Major Gifts. “Inclusion in peoples’ wills and estate plans is a testament to that point. We hope more people will be encouraged to make similar gifts to help ensure the future of public broadcasting.”

Northwest Public Radio is a network of 13 stations owned and operated by WSU.
