Wednesday, November 3rd, the 2004 Washington State University Jazz Festival will be presented on the WSU Campus. The Festival will include a concert by Jazz Northwest, the WSU faculty group, from 12:00-12:30 pm followed by a gala concert from 12:30 to 1:30 pm featuring guest trumpet artist Tim Acosta and the award-winning WSU Jazz Big Band directed by Greg Yasinitsky. WSU jazz faculty members will also be featured. Both concerts will be in Bryan Hall Theatre and will be free of charge.
WSU’s special guest for the festival is the jazz trumpeter Tim Acosta. Tim has appeared with many jazz luminaries including Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, George Shearing, Ella Fitzzgerald, the Woody Herman Orchestra and Tito Puente. Acosta has performed as a lead trumpeter on over sixty-five Broadway musicals and is featured on numerous recordings including the Linda Rondstadt platinum record “Cry Like a Rainstorm.” In addition, Tim is the leader of the Sacramento Jazz Orchestra.
The program for the gala concert will include Argersinger’s arrangement of Sigmund Romberg’s “Softly as in a Morning Sunrise”Sammy Nestico’s “Rachael,” Daniel Barry’s “A View From the Top” and Yasinitsky’s “Park City Express.”
The festival will also feature school groups from throughout the Northwest performing in Kimbrough Concert Hall from 7:40-11:40 am and from 2:00-5:20 pm. Acosta and WSU faculty members will also present clinics throughout the day. All of these events are open to the public free of charge.
The WSU Jazz Festival is supported by the WSU School of Music and Theatre Arts, the WSU Jazz Society and the ASWSU Student Entertainment Board (SEB).
