Washington State University’s Art a la Carte, a brown-bag noon lecture series, will present Tina Turnbull, aka DJ Special-T, Oct. 14 as she discusses new music, art and the history of turntablism.
Special-T is a disc jockey, musician and performer, and the turntable is her instrument. Audience members will learn about baby scratch,transformer, crab, stabs, and juggling during this unique presentation.
Turnbull began her music career when she was 10 years old. She played violin until she discovered turntables at age 15 and is now a member of the reggae/hip-hop band The Mugicians.Special-T, a recent guest on the Seattle TV show “Hip-Hop 101,” is a WSU student studying marketing.
The next Art a la Carte program is set for Oct. 21 when Paul Brians, WSU English department, and Trevor Bond, WSU Library Special Collections, will present the “Architecture of India.”
