Two new exhibits at WSU Vancouver feature photos and oil pastels by area artists.

Molly Cliff Hilts says she seeks beauty in the often overlooked or commonplace. She builds her oil pastels with layers of bright pigment before scratching through the top layers to reveal colors below. Her work is on display at the Student Services building through Sept. 10; see also http://www.mollycliffhilts.com.

WSU Vancouver student and employee Kris Engel also centers her work on things seen everyday but not often noticed. Many pieces in her show were photographed on campus. Some are digitally enhanced. Her art will be shown in the Engineering Life Sciences building through Oct. 1; also see http://home.comcast.net/~engelk/.

Both shows are free. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Mon.-Thu. and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Fri.
