PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University Dean of Liberal Arts Barbara Couture has been named senior vice chancellor for academic affairs for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She will begin her new job Aug. 15.
WSU Provost Robert C. Bates said Couture’s departure is a great loss to WSU. “She is an articulate and outstanding scholar as well as an extremely capable administrator who has represented us very well during her time here,” he said. Bates said Couture’s greatest contribution has been to promote liberal arts effectively within the university and externally to constituents and donors.
Bates said, “Dr. Couture’s departure is a credit to WSU as it reflects the abilities and qualities of our administrators that they are so keenly sought for leadership posts by other land-grant institutions. I congratulate the UNL system for its wonderful choice in Barbara Couture.”
Couture has been dean of the WSU College of Liberal Arts since 1998, managing 18 academic departments and programs. Bates said an interim dean will be named, followed by a national search for a replacement.
