Mariners, Master Gardeners Make Spring Magic

SEATTLE, Wash. — There are two symbols of the eternal hope of spring: Fresh flowers and the start of baseball. Both will greet Seattle Mariners fans as they arrive at Safeco Field for the team’s home opener next Tuesday, thanks to a partnership between the Mariners and the Washington State University King County Master Gardeners.

Master Gardener volunteers recently planted 1,000 pansies in the 25 concrete planters outside Safeco Field. In mid-May the volunteers will plant summer flowers and add 30 planted hanging baskets to the floral decor outside Safeco. Every day during the season, Master Gardener volunteers will water, fertilize and maintain the plantings. In return, the Mariners will help promote the Master Gardener program throughout the season.
