PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University staff member Keith Bloom was recognized by the Department of Defense group Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve for his support of reservists and guardsman called to active duty.
Oscar Schneegans, a cadet in the Army Reserve National Guard and former WSU employee, nominated Bloom for the “My Boss Is a Patriot” award in recognition of Bloom’s support of his dual commitments – to WSU and the National Guard.
Leonard Porter, chair of the Washington Committee for ESGR and WSU staff member, presented the award to Bloom in October.
“We thoroughly appreciate Keith’s support of our young men and women who are in the forefront in protecting all of the freedoms we hold dear in this country,” Porter said.
ESGR is a group of civilian volunteers dedicated to the support of the military and their employers. The organization is directed by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, located in Washington D.C.
Formed in 1972, the ESGR has some 4,400 volunteers nationwide with 72 in the state of Washington.
