PULLMAN, Wash. — Spotlighting many Washington State University world-class programs and the people behind them is a focus of the Academic Showcase, the opening event of World Class. Face to Face. SHOWCASE, March 26-27.

The public Academic Showcase, 8-10 a.m. Friday, March 26 in the Compton Union Building’s Carey Ballroom, will be an opportunity for members of the university community to network with colleagues and learn about cutting-edge research and programs through interactive displays and scholarly posters, said Provost Robert C. Bates.

Academic Showcase will feature faculty research as well as work by undergraduate and graduate students, including winners of WSU William R. Wiley Research Awards and the winner of the first College of Sciences Undergraduate Research Poster Competition.

Following the Academic Showcase, from 10 a.m.-noon, will be “Spotlight on World Class Faculty.” Kimberlee Kidwell, associate professor, Crop and Soil Sciences; David Whidbee, associate professor, Finance, Insurance and Real Estate; and John Nilson, director and professor, School of Molecular Biosciences, will give presentations on their cutting-edge research.

No preregistration is required for Academic Showcase. A complimentary continental breakfast will be served.

Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, March 26 in Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum, university and community members will gather to honor newly tenured and promoted faculty and award-winning faculty and staff members during “Celebrating Excellence: An Evening Honoring Our Faculty and Staff” banquet. University President V. Lane Rawlins and Provost Bates will preside. Crimson Revue will provide entertainment. SHOWCASE continues Saturday, March 27 at 8 a.m. with Preview for Juniors in the coliseum and other locations. During this campus-wide open house, current high school juniors and their parents will take part in an academic fair, tour campus and attend academic sessions.
