Reservations Being Taken for March 26 “Celebrating Excellence: An Evening Honoring Our Faculty and Staff” Banquet

PULLMAN, Wash. — Reservations are being taken for Washington State University’s “Celebrating Excellence: An Evening Honoring Our Faculty and Staff” banquet, an open-to-the-public event to be held starting at 6 p.m. Friday, March 26 in Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum.

During the banquet, award-winning WSU faculty and staff will be honored by WSU President V. Lane Rawlins, Provost Robert C. Bates and others.

The banquet is part of the second World Class. Face to Face. Showcase weekend, March 26-27. During it, members of WSU advisory boards and volunteers groups will meet with Rawlins and other university leaders to help plan strategies for supporting WSU. Board members will attend the banquet.

Other Showcase events include a public “Academic Showcase” from 8-10 a.m. March 26 in the Compton Union Building’s Carey Ballroom. This university-wide display session will highlight academic excellence throughout WSU. Also, on Saturday, March 27 starting at 8 a.m., Preview for Juniors will be held in the coliseum and other locations. During this campus-wide open house, current high school juniors and their parents will take part in an academic fair, tour campus and attend academic sessions.

At the banquet, those to be honored include Frances K. McSweeney, Eminent Faculty Award; Kenneth L. Casavant, Distinguished Faculty Address and Sahlin Faculty Excellence Award for Public Service; John A. Browse, Sahlin Faculty Excellence Award for Research, Scholarship and Arts; Roger Schlesinger, Sahlin Faculty Excellence Award for Instruction; Richard Zack, Marian E. Smith Faculty Achievement Award, and Maxine Andrews, Robert Force and Robert Hubner, President’s Employee Excellence Award.

Other honorees – to be named later — will include those whose faculty rank has been elevated from full professor to Regents Professor and those who have been tenured and/or promoted and those named distinguished professors or to endowed chairs.

Newly tenured and promoted faculty, award recipients and one guest each will be hosted by the university at the banquet. For all others, reservations for the banquet are required by March 17 and may be made through the WSU Conference and Professional Programs Web site at http://www.capps.wsu.edu/showcase. For those without Web access, Conferences and Professional Programs can be reached by phone at (509) 335-3530 or (800) 942-4978.

The banquet succeeds the Faculty Honors Convocation, held for the past three years, and the Employee Excellence Awards reception, ceremony and luncheon, held since 1990. A campus-wide survey showed faculty and staff preferred a new activity instead of the previous events.
