Professor Available to Comment on Report on East Coast Blackout

Mani Venkatasubramanian, associate professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, is available to comment on the report released today analyzing the events of the August 14 blackout on the East coast. He was the only professor on a commission that investigated two major blackouts in 1996 on the West Coast and was instrumental in determining that the cause was the collapse of voltage due to a shortage of reactive power.

Venkatasubramanian’s research expertise includes power system dynamics, stability and control and voltage stability analysis of large power systems.  Contact: Mani Venkatasubramanian, mani@eecs.wsu.edu, 509.335.6452.
