WSU regents approve baseball field project

Washington State University’s Board of Regents approved a $1.55 million project to upgrade Bailey Brayton Baseball Field at its regularly scheduled meeting Friday (Sept. 19) on the Pullman campus.

The project, which will be undertaken immediately, calls for replacement of the turf, remodeling the dugouts, adding a bathroom and improving the field drainage. The field will feature FieldTurf, the type of artificial surface already in place at Martin Stadium. The project should be completed over the fall and winter. It will be paid for through funds donated to the athletic department.

The regents also gave university administration the go-ahead to select consulting firms to provide planning and design services for six WSU projects on the Pullman campus: the Biomedical Sciences Facility, Housing and Dining Master Plan, International Studies/Sciences-Joint Center, Library System Master Plan, Murrow Hall East Wing Renovation and Prototype Suites Housing (around the Rotunda Dining Hall).

The regents also approved the hiring of a general contractor/construction manager for the Biotechnology/Life Sciences Building. That building represents Phase II of a multi-phased biotechnology complex, which is now underway with the construction of a new plant biosciences building adjacent to Johnson Hall.

The board also approved proposals for consultant selections for the Regents Dining Center Renovation; WSU Mount Vernon’s Research and Administration Facility; WSU Prosser’s Multipurpose Building; WSU Vancouver’s campus infrastructure project and the WSU Spokane, College of Nursing, Riverpoint Higher Education Campus project.

In other action, the regents approved a recommendation from the Office of Business Affairs to amend the university’s land-use policy to specify that lands leased from WSU not be used for hunting or fishing.

The board also adopted a schedule of meetings for 2004. The meetings are scheduled for Jan. 23 in Seattle, March 12 in Pullman, May 7 in Pullman, Sept. 17 at a site to be determined, Oct. 22 in Pullman and Nov. 19 in Pullman.

The regents’ next meeting will be Oct. 24 in Pullman.
