WSU Cougar Fans Get Enhanced Experience for Home Football Weekends

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University Cougar fans’ experience in Pullman for home football games will be enhanced thanks to new activities offered by WSU University Relations and partners.

They include Cougar Marching Band concerts, barbecues and buffets, a family-oriented Friday night downtown Pullman street fair and classes led by WSU world-class faculty members.

“These new events and activities continued from previous years puts the focus on the entire weekend for each home football game. It’s a great package,” said Sally Savage, the university’s vice president for university relations.

–Sept. 19: Cougars First Down Friday!, 6-10 p.m., Main Street, downtown Pullman, includes a street dance with the band “Men in the Making,” fun giant inflatables, great food, arts and crafts, and photos with Butch the Cougar. There will be a pep rally with the WSU Cougar Marching Band and cheerleaders, Coach Bill Doba and Cougar football team captains. Parking will be free at Gladish Community Center, 115 N.W. State St. Free shuttle buses will run continually to and from campus. In case of bad weather, the location will be Gladish Community Center. Free.

–Sept. 20, Oct. 4, Oct. 25, Nov. 8, Nov. 15: Pacific Northwest Savors buffets serving Northwest favorite foods in Compton Union Building, three hours before kickoffs.

–Sept. 20, Oct. 4, Oct. 25: Cougar Marching Band concerts and pep rallies on Glenn Terrell Friendship Mall, two hours before kickoffs. Free.

–Sept. 20, Oct. 4, Oct. 25: Barbecues on the mall catered by the Compton Union Building, two and one-half hours before kickoffs.

–Nov. 8, Nov. 15: Cougar Marching Band concerts and pep rallies in Beasley Coliseum, two hours before kickoffs. Free.

–Nov. 8: Cougar Conversations – Face to Face with WSU’s world-class faculty, several courses taught concurrently from 10 a.m.-noon, at locations across campus. For class schedules, go to Web site football-weekends.wsu.edu. Free.

WSU home football game opponents are Sept. 20 (Future Cougar/Band Day) New Mexico, Oct. 4 (Homecoming) Arizona, Oct. 25 (Dad’s Weekend) Oregon State; Nov. 8 (Armed Forces Day) UCLA and Nov. 15 Arizona State.

In addition, fans in town to see WSU football can see other Cougar teams in action in Pullman including Volleyball — Sept 19 Arizona State, Oct. 3 USC, Oct. 24 Stanford, Nov. 6 Oregon State and Nov. 7 Oregon; Tennis — Sept. 19-20 Cougar Classic with Idaho, Gonzaga, Wyoming, Boise State, Montana, and Montana State; Swimming — Oct. 4, Cougar Pentathlon; Soccer — Sept. 19 New Mexico, Oct. 3 Idaho State, Nov. 7 Arizona and Nov. 9 Arizona State; Women’s Basketball – Nov. 8 NW Sports (exhibition) and Men’s Basketball – Nov. 15 EA Sports (exhibition).

WSU rowing and women and men’s golf and cross-country and women’s basketball do not have home events during Cougar football weekends.
