Home-game activities at Washington State University will take on a dynamic new dimension this fall as the City of Pullman and the university join hands to launch a communitywide celebration for students, parents and citizens.
Mere tailgate parties in parking lots may become a thing of the past, as WSU and the community offer barbecues, concerts, classes by WSU world-class faculty, and a family night street fair. It will be a weekend event.
“These new events and activities, continued from previous years, put the focus on the entire weekend for each home football game. It’s a great package,” said Sally Savage, vice president for University Relations.
Here’s what’s planned:
Sept. 19: Cougars First Down Friday! Main Street, downtown Pullman.
* 6-10 p.m. Street dance with the band “Men in the Making,” fun giant inflatables, food, arts and crafts
* 6-8 p.m. Photos with Butch the Cougar.
* 7:30 p.m. Pep rally with the WSU Cougar Marching Band, cheerleaders, Coach Bill Doba and Cougar football team captains.
Parking will be free at Gladish Community Center, 115 N.W. State St. Free shuttle buses will run continually to and from campus. In case of bad weather, the location will be Gladish Community Center. Free.
Sept. 20, Oct. 4, Oct. 25, Nov. 8, Nov. 15: Pacific Northwest Savors will offer buffets featuring Northwest favorite foods. These buffets will begin three hours before kickoffs in Compton Union Building. Price varies according to purchase.

Cougar Marching Band concerts and pep rallies on Glenn Terrell Friendship Mall, two hours before kickoffs. Free.
Sept. 20, Oct. 4, Oct. 25:
Barbecues on the mall catered by the Compton Union Building, beginning 2-1/2 hours before kickoffs. Price varies according to purchase.
Nov. 8, Nov. 15: Cougar Marching Band concerts and pep rallies in Beasley Coliseum, two hours before kickoffs. Free.
Nov. 8: Cougar Conversations – Face to Face: WSU faculty will teach several courses concurrently, 10 a.m.-noon, at locations across campus. For class schedules, go to http://football-weekends.wsu.edu. Free.
WSU home football game opponents are: Sept. 20 (Future Cougar/Band Day) New Mexico; Oct. 4 (Homecoming) Arizona; Oct. 25 (Dad’s Weekend) Oregon State; Nov. 8 (Armed Forces Day) UCLA and Nov. 15 Arizona State.
