PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University and the University of Washington have teamed up with Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery for the second annual Chateau Ste. Michelle Scholarship Dinner and Concert to be held on Thursday, July 31. The signature event celebrates and supports deserving underrepresented minority students from both universities.
“This annual event is a superlative example of how industry and higher education in the state of Washington can partner to enhance our economy, our workforce, and the lives of our citizens,” said WSU President V. Lane Rawlins. “By banding together to support and enhance diversity in our state, we are all winners.”
Fourteen high-achieving minority students at Washington State University received scholarships beginning in the spring semester of 2003 and extending through the 2003-2004 academic year, as a result of the first annual dinner and concert, held last July.
“Chateau Ste. Michelle is setting a great example, not only for business ingenuity, but also in the promotion of diversity in the business world,” noted Linda Rico, a WSU Chateau Ste. Michelle Scholar. “It is an example that I plan to follow by giving back to my community in small and large ways.”
The Scholarship Dinner and Concert will feature a tasting of Chateau Ste. Michelle’s award-winning wines and a four-course dinner at 5:45 p.m. Attendees will enjoy reserved seating at 7 p.m., when legendary jazz and R&B singer Anita Baker will take the stage, marking her triumphant return after a seven-year hiatus. Baker will donate a portion of ticket sales from the concert to the Chateau Ste. Michelle Scholarship Fund, which supports diversity scholarships through the Washington Education Foundation at WSU and UW.
“We are pleased that the Anita Baker show is supporting a great cause for our community,” said Ted Baseler, President and CEO of Chateau Ste. Michelle. “The Chateau Ste. Michelle Scholarship Fund is an investment in the future of men and women striving to improve their lives through education.”
