Pomerenk named WSU registrar

Washington State University has named Julia Pomerenk as its registrar. Pomerenk, currently registrar at Pacific Lutheran University, is not new to the WSU system. She previously served as an assistant registrar in the Registrar’s Office from July 1989 through March 1998 when she joined PLU.

Janet Danley, executive director for enrollment services, said Pomerenk begins her duties July 21.

Pomerenk served five years as PLU registrar. “Julia’s broad base of experience and her knowledge of Washington State University will immediately benefit the Registrar’s Office and the institution,” Danley said.

Pomerenk replaces David Guzman who retired from the position in 2002. Richard Backes has served in the position on an interim basis, and returns to his associate registrar post.

“I look forward to returning to WSU and Pullman,” she said. “Many colleagues I enjoyed working with five years ago are still with the office. I also look forward to working with the many new faculty and staff members who have joined WSU.”

The new registrar earned her bachelor’s degree from PLU and a master’s degree from Ohio State University. In her earlier position with WSU, Pomerenk served as a liaison with the Faculty Senate concerning curriculum, scheduling and graduation.
