Washington State University Wins National Printing Awards

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Office of University Publications and Printing/WSU Press has received six awards for excellence in design and printing from the International Publishing Management Association. IPMA Awards are presented annually to the top-rated facilities in the country.

The College of Agriculture and Home Economics’ Connections magazine won first place in the Booklets: Black & White/Color category, while the College of Education’s Education News won first place in the Newsletters: 1-or Multi-color category. Taking second place in the Direct Mail: 1-or Multi-color category was the WSU Foundation’s Annual Meeting packet, You Hold the Key. University Publications and Printing’s Cougar Wall Calendar was awarded second place in the Wall Calendars: Four-color category. Marketing Communications’ general recruitment portfolio, Work Side by Side with the Best, was awarded Honorable Mention in the Pocket Folder: 1-or Multi-color category, and Passport to the World, the Hotel & Restaurant Administration’s viewbook, received Honorable Mention in the Booklets: 4-Color category. WSU entries competed with corporations and universities operating in-house design and print facilities throughout the nation.

“It is a delight to work with our partners across the campus to develop and print award-winning publications for Washington State University,” said Mary Read, director of Publications and Printing/WSU Press. “It is a team effort from start to finish and rewarding to see those who contribute their expertise receive this recognition for quality production,” she added.

IPMA is the leading association exclusively dedicated to the in-house professionals who provide graphic design, page layout, copy, print, mail and distribution services to their parent companies. Steve Rigby, director of printing, will receive the awards on behalf of the staff at the IPMA international meeting held this month in Salt Lake City.
