PULLMAN, Wash. — Robert C. Speth, a member of the Veterinary and Comparative Anatomy, Pharmacology and Physiology faculty will receive a Washington State University Science Libraries’ Service Award on June 16. The 2003 award program is planned for 2:30 p.m. in the Veterinary Anatomy Museum, 270 Wegner Hall. Refreshments will be served.

Since 1984 Speth has been a strong advocate for the WSU science libraries and an active member of numerous university library committees, as well as a frequent library user.
Speth has been a member of the Veterinary Medical Pharmacy Library Committee since 1984 and served as chair from 1987-91. He was a member of the WSU Faculty Senate Library Committee for several years, and served as chair from 1992-93. Speth worked with the Provost’s Steering Committee for the Libraries between 1995-98 and was chair from 1996-97.

Speth has worked on the Ad-Hoc Committee to Develop a Library Survey where he co-authored an article, “WSU Libraries in the 21st Century: Meeting the Need of Faculty and Graduate Assistants on All WSU Campuses.” In 1999 he was awarded the Faculty Library Award which is given to departmental faculty members who have shown exceptional support to WSU libraries.

The Science Libraries Service Award is awarded to a WSU faculty or staff member who has made an outstanding and long-term contribution to the science libraries. Speth is the third recipient of this award. Previous winners include Dr. Paul Schroeder of the School of Biological Sciences and Paul Johnson, VCAPP.

In July he will become the chairman of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Mississippi.
