PULLMAN, Wash. — Palouse area youth are encouraged to apply to participate this summer in the daily enrichment activities in the National Youth Sports Program at Washington State University, said Johnny Jones, NYSP community liaison officer.
The free program will begin on June 23 and will continue until July 31. NYSP is targeted to low-income families. However, no applicants will be rejected, Jones said.
The program is open to youth from ages 10-16 who live within a 60 mile radius of WSU.
There is no cost for the program activities, lunch, or bus transportation to and from the WSU campus.
The participants enjoy a variety of educational activities, especially in math and science, as well as sport and recreation activities and college preparation programs. A total of about 250 youngsters are expected to participate.
Approximately 30 WSU students work for the program as camp counselors and program assistants, Jones said. Those students gain valuable experience in directing camp activities and recreation programs.
Jones invites all youth interested in participating to contact NYSP at (509) 335-1309 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
