Student’s Death Attributed to Heart Failure

PULLMAN, Wash. — Whitman County Coroner Pete Martin said a Washington State University student’s death March 4 was the result of acute heart failure from cardiomyopathy, a disease that afflicts the muscle tissue of the heart.

Frederick Gawad, a senior electrical engineering major from Marysville, died shortly after being admitted to Pullman Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service for Gawad was held March 6 at St. Thomas More Catholic Newman Center.
