Coug Moms Due in Pullman April 11-13

PULLMAN, Wash. — Thousands of students, mothers and guests are expected to celebrate Mom’s Weekend April 11-13 on the Washington State University campus.

The Mom’s Weekend Committee has prepared and organized a calendar of events with more than 100 activities ranging from concerts, athletic activities, exhibits, special programs and more, reported Emily Poland, co-chair of the committee.

A Mom’s Weekend Brunch and Wayne Brady, comedian most famous for his “Whose Line is it Anyway?” program appearances, are two featured events of the weekend. Brady will perform at Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12. For ticket information, call (509) 335-1514 or go online to ticketswest.com. The annual brunch will honor the finalists and the winner of the Mom of the Year Award at the Compton Union Building on Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m. For ticket information, contact the Women’s Resource Center at (509) 335-6849.

The celebration will begin on Friday, April 11, with Mom’s Fitness Frenzy from 6 a.m.-11p.m. each day at the Student Recreation Center and for $5 moms can get an unlimited pass to the SRC through Sunday. An arts and crafts fair will take place from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday in Beasley Coliseum.

A number of musical performances and plays are scheduled during the weekend. “Into the Woods,” a musical performance of fairy tales and laughter, will begin at 8 p.m. in Bryan Hall both Friday and Saturday. A 2 p.m. matinee also is planned for Saturday. Tickets go on sale April 9-11 in the Kimbrough Music Building lobby from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and are $8 for general admission, and $4 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are also available at the door. The play also will be performed the following weekend.

“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” a comedic drama, will also begin at 8 p.m. in Daggy Hall’s Wadleigh Theatre both Friday and Saturday. “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress,” a celebration of the women’s spirit, will be performed at R.R. Jones Theatre at 8 p.m. both evenings. Saturday matinees also are planned for both productions. For ticket information, call the theatre box office at (509) 335-7236.

Saturday’s festivities begin with a 7 a.m.-1 p.m. pancake feed at the WSU Fire Station, located across from the CUB. Tickets will be available at the door. The WSU track and field team will be competing all day at Mooberry Track. For ticket information, call 1-800-GO-COUGS.

The 14th annual Mom’s Weekend Step Show will begin at 1 p.m. at Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling (509) 335-1514. Gamma Alpha Omega sorority will host a free barbecue from 4-8 p.m. at Kruegel Park in Pullman.

The weekend winds down on Sunday with Mom’s Weekend on the WSU Golf Course, which includes golf lessons, use of range facilities and tee times, from 8 a.m.-dusk. For more information, contact the golf course at (509) 335-1479.
