WSU SHOWCASE Weekend Debuts March 28-29

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University will host its inaugural World Class. Face to Face. SHOWCASE weekend March 28-29.

The event seeks to unite the WSU advisory boards and volunteer groups around a shared vision for the university’s future, while showcasing its world-class faculty and academic programs.

The SHOWCASE weekend begins with the Plenary Session in Bryan Hall Auditorium at 2:30 p.m. March 28. WSU President V. Lane Rawlins will outline the university’s strategic goals and progress toward the implementation of the strategic plan to the advisory boards and WSU leadership.

The Faculty Honors Convocation will begin at 4:10 p.m. in Bryan Hall Auditorium, with a faculty academic procession at 3:30 p.m. John Brooks Slaughter, president and chief executive officer of The National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering and former director of the National Science Foundation, will deliver the keynote address, “Diversity: An Opportunity, Not a Challenge.” WSU also will honor its top faculty award recipients, including Rodney B. Croteau, Eminent Faculty Award; Thomas A. Brigham, Alice M. Spitzer and Gerald E. Edwards, Sahlin Faculty Excellence Award; and J. Thomas Dickinson, Marian E. Smith Faculty Achievement Award.

The advisory boards, faculty award recipients and WSU leadership will participate in a 6 p.m. SHOWCASE Reception at Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum.

The day will wrap up with WSU Jazz SHOWCASE at 7:30 p.m. Students and faculty from the School of Music and Theatre Arts, including Crimson Revue, VoJazz and the WSU Jazz Big Band, will give special performances in Beasley Theater. The concert is free and open to the public.

Junior Preview will round out the SHOWCASE weekend beginning at 8 a.m. March 29 in Beasley Coliseum. At this campus-wide open house, future Cougars and their parents will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with WSU faculty members and learn about the universities first-rate academic programs.
