Acclaimed novelist and screenwriter Steven Barnes will cap Washington State University Vancouver’s 2003 Professional Writing Series on April 3 with a lecture titled “From Books to Television — Science Fiction for Both Worlds.”
The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in the Multimedia Building Lecture Hall. It is free and open to the public.
Barnes is considered one of today’s most exciting writers in the fields of speculative and science fiction. Critics call his bestselling books “groundbreaking” and “inspirational.” In addition to writing more than 15 novels, Barnes is a screenwriter whose credits include television episodes of “The Outer Limits,” “Andromeda” and “The Twilight Zone.” The author also served as a creative consultant for the full-length, animated feature, “The Secret of Nimh.”
“He has done what many writers only dream about doing — he’s built a successful career as both a novelist and a screenwriter,” said Pamela Smith Hill, director of the professional writing program at WSU Vancouver. “His insights into fiction and film will certainly enrich the growing community of writers here on campus and in the larger Portland/Vancouver area.”
The Professional Writing Series is an annual event at which nationally and regionally renowned writers and guest lecturers discuss their experiences as writers, share insights into the writing life, and provide advice to young writers.
