2003 Mom of the Year Award Nominations Being Accepted

PULLMAN, Wash. — Nominations for Washington State University’s 2003 Mom of the Year Award are being accepted until March 7.

“It’s not often when college students actually tell their moms what they mean to them,” said Emily Poland, Mom’s Weekend Committee co-chair. “This is a perfect time to not only tell your mom how you feel about her, but to share it with many people.”

Each nomination will be reviewed and judged based on the mother’s relationship with her child and family, unique characteristics, accomplishments and personal achievements. Contributions to their local communities, as well as the WSU community, will also be taken into account, said Annette Williams, Mom’s Weekend Committee adviser. Examples of past descriptions are available online at the event Web site, www.events.wsu.edu/moms-weekend.

Four award finalists will be announced by March 31. Finalists earn two free tickets to the official Mom’s Weekend Brunch at 10 a.m. April 12 in the Compton Union Building Ballroom, where WSU President V. Lane Rawlins will announce the winner.

“Even if your mom is not picked as a finalist, a nomination will mean so much to her,” Poland said.

Forms are available at the Women’s Resource Center, Wilson Hall, Room 8, or at the event Web site.

For more information about nominating a mom or to learn more about Mom’s Weekend, call Williams at (509) 335-6849 or visit the event Web site.
