Kappa Delta Sorority Teams Up With Grocery Stores To Help Local Food Bank

PULLMAN, Wash. — Members of Washington State University’s chapter of Kappa Delta sorority will host their first annual “Give From the Heart” canned food drive Feb. 10-14.

Sorority members will be stationed at the entrances of Safeway and Dissmores grocery stores from 4:30-7 p.m. collecting donations.

On Friday (Feb. 14) all food donations will be given to the Whitman County Community Action Center food bank. In the last year the food bank was accessed more than 1,000 times.

“After working at the food bank, I realized there might not be food on the shelves if it weren’t for organizations donating their time,” Kim Johnson, food drive chairman, said. Kappa Delta members will provide a list of the most needed items to store patrons at the entrances.

“This is the first year we have had a food drive and I hope it will become a tradition from now on,” senior sorority member Brooke Schlameus said.
