SPOKANE, Wash. — Regional health plan Premera Blue Cross has continued a tradition of support for People’s Clinic, a community service project of the Intercollegiate College of Nursing/Washington State University College of Nursing, with a $23,809 contribution from its Health and Wellness Endowment Fund.

This contribution marks the fifth consecutive year the Premera Blue Cross Health and Wellness Endowment fund, administered by Foundation Northwest, has helped People’s Clinic reach a growing number of uninsured or underinsured residents in Spokane County. Since 1998, Premera Blue Cross has donated a total of $103,122 to People’s Clinic outreach efforts through the Health and Wellness Endowment fund, making it the clinic’s single largest local contributor.

A donation ceremony will take place 10 a.m., Dec. 12, at the People’s Clinic in the YWCA, located at 829 W. Broadway Ave. Tours of the clinic will be offered and People’s Clinic nurse practitioners will be answering questions about Spokane’s uninsured/underinsured population and other health-related issues affecting our region. Representatives from Premera Blue Cross and Foundation Northwest will also be on hand.

“The continued support of Premera Blue Cross has made it possible for our clinic to continue providing outreach services in Spokane schools and neighborhoods and funding for necessary supplies and specialized medical equipment,” said Loly Reyes-Gonzalez, clinic outreach services manager.

People’s Clinic, established in 1998, is a community health care clinic managed and operated by nurse practitioners from the Intercollegiate College of Nursing/WSU College of Nursing. Most of the 350 patients seen monthly at the clinic lack adequate health care coverage. However, no one is turned away for an inability to pay for services.

“We are very pleased to continue our support of important health services offered through People’s Clinic to the uninsured, underinsured and homeless men, women and children of Spokane County,” said Gail Keeling, vice president and general manager of the Premera Blue Cross eastern Washington operations.
