A workshop designed to help researchers learn the fundamentals of preparing a strong application for National Institutes of Health funding will be held at WSU Spokane Sept. 10. The workshop is open to local grant administrators, researchers (particularly those new to NIH funding), and graduate students.
The workshop will be held in the auditorium of the Phase I Classroom Building at the Riverpoint Higher Education Campus, 668 North Riverpoint Dr. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with a welcome and opening remarks at 8 a.m. The workshop concludes at 5 p.m. There is no charge for the workshop. The workshop will also be recorded and set up as a link from the WSU Spokane Web site ( www.spokane.wsu.edu) so that it can be viewed later via videostream.
The seminar is designed to help research faculty and administrators learn the fundamentals of preparing a strong application and navigating the review process, discover research training and career development opportunities, better understand the roles and responsibilities of parties involved in federally funded research, and clarify federal regulations and policies.
“The workshop will provide valuable information on grant-writing and promote an increased understanding of the factors that contribute to success in obtaining research funding, Dennis Dyck, associate dean for research at WSU Spokane, said. “Bringing NIH staff to town and developing working relationships with NIH program officers is one of the strategies to build health sciences research in Spokane.”
The workshop will be presented by NIH staff member Anthony M. Coehlo, Jr., Ph.D., a review policy officer from the Office of Extramural Research, and Regina White, director of the Office for Policy for Extramural Research Administration.
