International Programs names two new directors

International Programs recently appointed two key leaders to its management team.

Mary Furnari assumed her role as the assistant director of International Student Services on Aug. 12. Furnari, comes from the University of Idaho, where she was the coordinator of International Student/Scholar Programs since 1995. Furnari takes over the duties of Uta Hutnak, who retired in July after 17 years as assistant director of International Programs /International Student Services.

From 1998 to 1999, Furnari was resident director of the University Studies Abroad Consortium China Program at Sichuan University. From 1991 to 1995, she was the international student advisor at the University of Idaho. And from 1985 to 1987, she was an English teacher at Chengdu University of Science and Technology in China.

Furnari has a bachelor’s degree in physical education.

Candace A. Chenoweth was appointed interim assistant director of Education Abroad and International Credentials. Chenoweth will lead the day-to-day operation of International Programs’ Education Abroad section and International Credit Evaluation and will work with departments and faculty to define contexts in which education abroad can flourish.

Chenoweth came to WSU in March 2001 as the International Credentials Specialist. She has seven years experience in international education and extensive experience living and working in Europe and Asia.
