Gov. Gary Locke has named Washington State University senior Jason O. Johnson as the student member of the WSU Board of Regents.
Johnson, of Port Townsend, is a senior majoring in elementary education. He is the fifth WSU student regent, succeeding Darren Eastman of Renton.
Johnson serves as the director of Internal Affairs for the Associated Students of WSU (ASWSU). As such, he creates and maintains the ASWSU internship program and serves on the “Up All Night” program’s board of directors.
He also works with the city of Pullman and others for safe, quality housing on College Hill. And he serves on the Presidential Committee for Safety and Health.
He is a member of the Wilson Compton Union board of directors, and a member (and past chair) of the Student Publications board of directors.
Johnson said he said he hopes to help the ten members of the regent board focus on WSU’s strategic plan. “This is a great time for WSU,” Johnson said, “and this is a great opportunity to help make a lot of important changes.”
