Mark Knudson to be Honored as Distinguished Graduate Alumnus

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s Department of Veterinary and Comparative Anatomy, Pharmacology and Physiology will join in the university’s 100 years of graduate education April 16 by honoring its first Distinguished Graduate Alumnus, Dr. Mark Knudson.

Knudson, class of 1974, will be honored during a public reception immediately following his address, “Innovation at the Boundaries: Clinical Needs in Search of Solution,” set for noon, in Wegner Hall, Room G-1.

Knudson, who lives in St. Paul, Minn., received his doctorate in physiology from the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, he was awarded a National Institutes of Health Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship at WSU and was a post-doctoral fellow and faculty member at the University of Washington School of Medicine from 1975-79.

Dr. Knudson is chair and chief executive Officer of Venturi Group, LLC, a venture capital-backed medical device incubator. He also serves as president and CEO of Pi Medical, Inc., a company that develops products for the treatment of sleep-disordered breathing, and chair of HeartStent Corporation, a company researching novel approaches to the treatment of coronary artery disease.
