WSU Club Sponsors Recycling Project

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Environmental Science Club will see to it that office printer cartridges are not wasted. Jenny Hendricks, a junior Environmental Science major from Belfair, is heading up a recycling project to collect the used cartridges.

Each month the cartridges, which are being collected at the Bookie, will be boxed and sent to a recycling company by club members. The company pays from $1.50 to $3 for each recyclable cartridge.

“We mailed the first shipment of 177 cartridges last week,” said Hendricks. “This will be an ongoing project and the proceeds will go to buy canvas shopping bags that we plan to distribute on Earth Day. The canvas bags will be traded for plastic grocery bags to encourage people to take their own re-usable bag shopping.”

People who want to participate should deposit their printer cartridges in the collection box near the downstairs photo counter in the Bookie.
