Alvin Ailey II Dances Its Way to Beasley March 3

PULLMAN, Wash.—Renowned dance troupe Alvin Ailey II will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Washington State University’s Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum.

Ailey II, the junior company of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, is an ensemble of emerging choreographers and promising young dancers from The Ailey School in New York City. The dance company emphasizes technique, performance and repertoire. Each dancer has completed advanced training at The Ailey School.

Led by Artistic Director Sylvia Waters, Ailey II features dance styles ranging from traditional ballet to modern dance. These styles are showcased in a repertory of 14 different works.

The late Alvin Ailey, acclaimed dancer and choreographer, began Ailey II in 1974 as a way to bridge the gap between The Ailey School and professional careers for the school’s exceptional students. Since then, some Ailey II members have gone on to careers with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Others have become dance teachers, choreographers and dancers on Broadway.

Tickets are $10-$28 and are available at the Beasley ticket office, Cougar Depot, North Campus Information Center in Moscow, Idaho, Albertson’s in Lewiston, Idaho, G&B Select-A-Seat outlets, online at www.ticketswest.com or by calling 1-800-325-SEAT.
