PULLMAN, Wash. — In response to the Sept. 11 tragedy, a blood drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Washington State University Student Recreation Center.
The goal for the American Red Cross Lewis Clark branch and the drive’s sponsors is 126 units of blood. They have only 30 openings left at this point, according to Cathy Bergley, wellness programs support supervisor. Reservations are recommended.
The donation takes about an hour. WSU Health and Wellness Services staff will give free massages, and Butch’s Bistro will provide refreshments.
“This is an excellent opportunity for everyone to come together: staff, students and the community,” Bergley said. The SRC also will be open all day to anyone in the community.
Blood donors must be at least 17 and weigh 110 pounds, according to the American Red Cross. Drink plenty of fluids before and after the blood donation, and do not exercise for 24 hours afterward, advised Marsha Turnbull, WSU health educator.
WSU Health and Wellness Services, Associated Students of WSU, SRC and Butch’s Bistro are sponsoring the event.
