WSU Vancouver Adds Real Estate Major to Business Degree

VANCOUVER, Wash. — This fall, Washington State University Vancouver will begin offering a real estate major as part of the Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. WSU has the only bachelor’s degree program in real estate in five states; WSU Vancouver’s program will be the only one of its kind in the region.

“There have been a lot of requests for real estate courses from the community,” said Joe Cote, coordinator of business programs at WSU Vancouver. “Working with WSU Spokane, we are able to provide Vancouver students the option of using the Washington Higher Education Telecommunication System.”

Don Epley, the Victor L. Lyon and CCIM Distinguished Professor of Real Estate on the Pullman campus, will teach the courses. Epley holds both Certified Commercial Investment Member and Member of the Appraisal Institute designations.

Three courses are on the schedule for fall, including real estate finance, principles of real estate and law of real estate. Offered in spring are real estate investment and real estate evaluation. Professionals also can take the classes for credit within their own trade organizations.

An undergraduate degree in business administration with a real estate major prepares students for such positions as property appraisers, real estate brokers, financial loan officers, construction project managers and government real estate specialists.

Students already have the option of majoring in accounting, business administration, finance, human resources/personnel or management information systems. Plans to add an insurance major are in the works for fall 2002.
