TOPPENISH, Wash. — Washington State University Tri-Cities’ Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement Program will hold its annual high school banquet from 6-8 p.m. May 9 at Heritage College in Toppenish.
MESA staff, along with teachers from Yakima, Wapato, Toppenish, Sunnyside and Pasco, will celebrate the achievements and events of the 2000-01 program.
Students, families, teachers and industry representatives will be on hand as MESA announces student awards, internship appointments and scholarships provided by Boeing Co.
Toppenish Mayor Pro Tem Clara Jiminez will give the welcome. Frank Godina, transportation engineer for the Washington Department of Transportation, Toppenish MESA alumni, and WSU College of Engineering and Architecture alumni will share experiences and inspirational thoughts with the graduating MESA seniors.
“Celebrating the success of students which MESA has had the opportunity to support is always very exciting,” says Yakima Valley/Tri-Cities MESA Director Kirk Reinkens. “Through our teacher and industry partners, these students have gained clearer pictures of their opportunities in mathematics- and science-based careers. We look forward to seeing their talents blossom in college and the workforce.”
MESA brings together resources and support for underrepresented students in grades 6-12. Corporate support comes from Battelle, Fluor Hanford, Salomon Smith Barney, Bechtel Hanford and CH2MHILL Hanford Group.
