PULLMAN, Wash. — Samantha Swindell, a Washington State University psychology faculty member, will give the 2001 Honors Student Advisory Council Invited Lecture at 6 p.m. Feb. 5 in Todd Hall, Room 276.
The public lecture is titled “See Spot Sit: What Can Happen When the Science of Animal Learning Meets the Art of Dog Training.” Swindell will present an introduction to “clicker training,” a form of animal training based on the science of animal learning. She will discuss how psychologist B.F. Skinner’s principles in animal learning can be used as safe and effective training tools.
The presentation is for anyone who wants to know how animals learn and how pet owners can form more positive relationships with their pets.
Swindell is currently an instructor for the Department of Psychology. She received a doctorate in the experimental analysis of behavior from WSU in 1998 and has been teaching in the Honors College for the past three years.
The invited lecture has been an annual event in the Honors College for more than 20 years. Honors students choose faculty based on their enthusiasm for teaching and their involvement in a research topic that has appeal to the university and the greater community.
